Since I moved to New York. I always wanted to visit this eastern most point of the Empire State. I got my chance when my in-laws visited us.
Montauk Point is the last of land on eastern Long Island. The Montauk Point Lighthouse is one of the historic sites in the country. Place is very quiet, peaceful and well maintained as it’s one of the NY State Parks. There is a fee of $10 per person to enter the lighthouse premises. Yes, that is correct visitors have to pay $10 just to be in the area of lighthouse. Thankfully this fee includes Montauk Lighthouse Museum and admittance to top of the lighthouse.
Lighthouse parking area has several swings installed to relax and enjoy the view. The lighthouse itself is not that great but the trip is worth of you visit a few surrounding attractions. There are a couple of beaches to visit around the park which allow you magnificent sites of this famous lighthouse. Also on one of the southern waterfront in Camp Hero State Park there is a false cliff area which could be a little dangerous but at the same time gives great views of sunrise and sunset. Montauk Point State Park and the surrounding area is worth visiting at least once if you live on Long Island or in New York City Metro area.
